MT4 Malaysia: Why This Old Platform Still Dominates

MT4 first appeared in 2005. It is older than YouTube. Older than Twitter. It is older than the iPhone. However, in Malaysia, the trading platform of the retail forex traders is still dominated by MT4. This is not about nostalgia. It reflects its functionality.

So why does a 20-year-old platform still survive?

The answer has to do with familiarity. Malaysian communities have built massive MT4 resources online. Custom indicators, expert advisor scripts, tutorials. Beginners inherit a large existing ecosystem. That ecosystem does not recreate itself in a new platform overnight.

The interface is a little bit difficult to get used to. It lacks modern aesthetics. The visuals feel like early 2000s software. Under the surface, it is highly capable. It offers multiple timeframes, many indicators, and automation via MQL4. Once familiar, traders ignore the design.

The strength of MT4 lies in its EAs. These are automated trading programs. The MQL4 community has produced many EAs. Others are actually helpful. Most only work in backtests, not live markets. Understanding which ones work is key.

In the MT4 experience, brokers are very important. MT4 is provided through brokers, not directly accessed. Two users may have completely different results depending on their broker. That is why the choice of the broker and the choice of the platform are essentially the same.
