The WAHMderful Life Community and The WAHM 101 Workshop

I just had a meeting with Sally of http://thebinondomommy.blogspot.com/ and i just learned that she just resigned from her job. I told her that I clearly remember the first few months that I resigned from my job to be a work-at-home-mom (WAHM as the online world calls me). I was really scared. I know that I have this aura that can fool a lot of people that I know what I’m doing and I always look as if I’m in control, but the truth was, I wasn’t. I wasn’t sure about what I leaped into. I wasn’t sure if I could bring in money to help my husband with the expenses. I wasn’t sure if my business would fly. I wasn’t sure about my capabilities and my skills. Every day, I doubted myself.

I always encourage others to try to make risk, but I really know that once your in THAT PARTICULAR SCENARIO, your knees would shake and you’d always feel like fainting just by thinking of that thought of not having a steady income when you go into business. It’s a tough world and venturing into business is a tough road, that’s why only a few take that path. But the rewards are great when you start seeing the fruits of your labor. The stakes are high, but once you stay on board, the benefits are numerous, too.

But during that time when I started, looking back, I know I couldn’t have done it without a group of people who supported me in each and every step of the way. Yes, I had my family, but more than that, I needed the support of individuals who could tell me that what I was going through was but normal and part of the big picture. I am thankful that I had the WAHMderful Life Community, a group of 1200+ (to date) ladies, mostly moms, who are all working from home or who have experienced how it is to work from home.

READ ABOUT ITS BEGINNINGS HERE…

No one really understands that invisible bond that this group has. We don’t all know each other personally. We don’t get to see each other often. We only get to see each other during workshops and events, but being a part of the group (even if we just get to interact through the Facebook group) made me stronger and assured me that I wasn’t alone… that I am not alone.

Aside from the support, I got to gain friends, business partners, really great suppliers, acquaintances, blog readers, etc. that helped me make my life and businesses easier. Yes, working from home doesn’t make you a loner (I think I even know more people and my network grew exponentially when I worked from home and had my own business).

For those thinking of working from home or starting your own business, whether married, married with children, or single, I highly recommend that you join us on June 28, 2014 for the WAHM 101. You will learn a lot of things from the speakers or even just from the people who will be attending as participants, too. You will get to network, get to validate your business idea or even share a tip or two to people who will become your friends (probably forever).

Eats Right: Motivation Meetups for Fit and Fab Femmes

As for those who know me, ever since I was a teenager, I was really into fitness. Some people would even previously call me GYMger instead of Ginger since I would spend most of my time in the gym. I think I worked out more than I studied. I am thankful that I have been blessed with fantastic endurance when I was younger (probably not anymore). I would stay at the gym from 7am until 10pm. I would carry at least 5 changes of gym outfits every day.

I have an athletic body. I have huge thighs and huge arms. I was telling some of my Steps Project teammates that my ‘extremities’ are my problem. I have no problem with my tummy (I’m blessed that it doesn’t protrude that much), but what gets to me is that I look fat in pictures because my arms are huge.

I also have body image issues. I always think I’m fat. It got better when I got married, probably because I didn’t care that much anymore. I wrote about my problem in this article: A Woman’s Struggle

Now that I am more in touch with my body (yoga helped!), I want to help other ladies feel grateful and happy on who they are and with the body that they have. I want to help them achieve their fitness and health goals this year. I know that it’s hard to try to achieve fitness goals, especially when you’re alone in this quest to be healthy (when everyone is digging into a bag of chips and when all choices presented to you contain fat and preservatives).

I have always wanted to start this kind of support group. I have been longing to provide an avenue for ladies that would help them achieve their health and fitness goals. That is why I am very excited to launch the Eats Right! Program.

Join the Eats Right meet-ups!

The Eats Right! Program is composed of pep talks and motivational meet ups that are for fit and fab femmes (single, married or married with children, etc.) who want to have a support group in achieving their health and fitness goals this year. The Eats Right Pep Talks will be a series of 5 meet-ups where the ladies will get to do different activities and will learn about different aspects of health, nutrition and fitness.

I am doing this with fit and fab ladies Martine de Luna of MakeitBlissful.com and Michelle Padrelanan of BeyondSilverandGold.com. This plan only took two weeks of preparation, since we really wanted to launch it before the end of May. That is how excited we were!

Also, let me thank our sponsors who readily believed in the Eats Right movement. We would like to thank Ian of Without Limits, Lourdes of Nanay Lunches with Love, Farah of Train Station, Aisa of Yoga Plus (love yah, cuz!), Cindy and Liezel from Curves Eastwood and my new friend, Vanessa of Go Steady (love yah, too, girl!).

Mom and Baby Fashion and Some Summer Fashion Tips

I love it! I pulled up my jeans today and I think I lost at least 1-2 inches. The mere fact that I think I need a belt to keep it up is a good sign. I’m on this challenge with my friends that whoever loses the most body fat will win 10K. I hope to win the cash prize and the bragging rights! I won’t tell you what my program is though for now, for the fear that my friends will get to read my strategy. I promise to share it with you my readers though in ManilaFitness.com once our challenge is done.

The challenge though is to buy new clothes!

I have always loved shopping and now that I have a daughter, shopping is more fun! I know that for those with little children, two of the pertinent issues are that of nutrition and fashion. What do you feed these children? Are they getting enough nutrition? What clothes do we buy for them? What looks good?

So on May 24, 2014, Saturday, from 1-5PM, join Manila Workshops, Medela Moms, and Unilab, and sign up for this half day workshop. Registration fee is just at Php 300 per person. There are only limited slots available so sign up and pay immediately!

Oh and another dilemma for me is picking the right clothes for the beach! A must have for me is the cover-up. I have yet to find the perfect cover-up for that bikini that I plan to use when I hit the beach.

Celebrity Mom Sheer Cover Up

A sheer cover-up is perfect for a one-piece swimsuit, exposing just the right amount of skin since the opening is all front. The fringe effect adds a little style unto the ensemble.

Celebrity Mom White Coverup

Oh, I love this white cover-up. The texture of the dress is not too sheer for less exposure and is best paired with a bandeau bikini top since the cute of the neckline is deep-v.

Celebrity Mom Tunic

I’ve also noticed the fad now is to own a tunic dress. I’d love to own one since it’s perfect for chilly evenings in the beach where I want full coverage, because it not see through and has a thicker fabric than the usual cover ups. It also doesn’t limit itself only at the beach because you can wear it while running simple errands in the city by pairing it with some white sneakers.

If you want to learn more about summer cover-ups, check out the anniversary issue of Celebrity Mom, featuring Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan on the cover! Follow them on Facebook (www.facebook.com/CelebMomPh) and like them on Twitter (@CelebMomPh) and Instagram (@CelebMomPh).

So, I’m actually off now to shop for some stuff! Hope to meet you on May 24 so that we can talk more about fashion. See yah!

Learning about Art and Money (For Kids 6 to 12 years old)

I came from a meeting with Ann from Gymboree yesterday and we were talking of how crucial it was to teach children during the first months of their lives, even before they turn 1. We have tried to teach Zeeka a lot of stuff from the time that she was three months old. I think we’ve done our job in terms of socializing her and introducing her to the world. At 1, she already understands a lot of things and I know she does even if she still can’t speak clearly. She know what books (“bu”) are and that airplanes fly (Mommy makes a lot of paper airplanes!). She knows what kisses are and what “dance” means. She knows what apples are and the her favorite fruit is really a toss up between grapes and apples.

Here’s dada teaching Zeeka!

I know that Ej and I will continuously strive to teach her everything that we can teach her. Even if she goes to school and learns from the world around, we will be there to guide her. We will also continuously expose her and join her in different workshops and activities. Ej calls me a “Stage Mom” because I try to expose Zeeka and join her in different activities. At the back of my head, it’s really because I want her to enjoy life, experience everything that she can and later on in life decide what she wants to do.

I’m happy that I have Manila Workshops to present workshpop options for parents to further expose their children to different things, like Art and Finances/Money. This April, we have two workshops that will be interesting and definitely enjoyable for children ages 7 to 12 (6yos and 13yos are allowed) years old!
