Electrical Certificates
As a homeowner you are not required by law to conduct a periodic electrical test, although it is often required as part of the buying or selling process. It is advised that homeowners should carry out an electrical safety test every 10 years and business premises every 5 years as electrical installations are subject to deterioration and general wear and tear over time.
If you are a landlord the latest legislation known as the Landlord Safety Test will require an EICR certificate every 5 years. As a landlord you are responsible for the safety of all electrics throughout the property including all installations and electrical appliances that you have provided.
