1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If best robot hoover in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
