EvoSwing: The New Swing System in PGA TOUR 2K25
Yo, 2K25 just dropped this lit feature called EvoSwing, which totally levels up the gameplay. It's a new way to swing the club, and it’s based on four key things: contact, rhythm, transition, and swing path. Each of these are tracked separately, so you can either get a boost or a penalty depending on how you swing. If you’re ready to try it out, you can buy Xbox games and dive right into this game-changing feature. It’s honestly not as wild as it sounds, but it definitely makes the game feel more like a true golf sim compared to 2K23. On controller, it's pretty simple: contact is about how you move the right stick down, swing path is about how you move it up, rhythm is how fast or slow you’re moving the stick, and transition is how the stick lines up during the whole swing. Basically, the straighter and smoother you move the stick, the better your shot. It takes some practice and muscle memory, but it’s way more fluid and natural than before. Also, they’ve set the default difficulty to Perfect Swing, which is basically “easy mode,” but tbh it’s kinda chill and lowkey boring, especially for a game about golf, where people be mad quiet during the game. But, if you’ve been playing MyCareer on that easy difficulty and then hop online, it’ll hit different, ‘cause ranked matches usually go hard with Pro-Am or higher difficulty. I get why they don’t want ranked matches to be easy, but if you’re jumping from chill mode to competitive, you might feel like you’re getting wrecked. So if you're the type to switch between casual and competitive, maybe start at a harder difficulty, or you might get bodied by real players. Plus, you get more XP for playing harder, so it’s worth it if you want that challenge, but the difficulty balance still feels a little off.
MyCareer Mode: From Korn Ferry to PGA Tour in 2K25
MyCareer mode in PGA Tour 2K25 is the vibe, where you create your own player and grind your way up from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA Tour where the pros ball out. If you're hooked on that progression system, you’ll want to buy PS5 games that offer a similar career journey and customization! The whole MyCareer setup is smooth and no-nonsense, with stuff constantly unlocking and no filler to slow you down. Each week, you get optional training sessions and pre-tournament events that give you stat boosts if you do them, or you can just skip all that and get straight to playing golf, which is a total win. Plus, there’s this dope new feature that lets you play only a few holes in each round of a tournament, with the rest getting simulated. As a newer dad, I seriously can’t even explain how much I loved being able to knock out a whole tourney in like 50 minutes without feeling like I missed anything important or got screwed by the simulation. Total lifesaver. PGA Tour 2K25 isn’t just about MyCareer mode, there’s mad stuff to do. You can jump into one-off matches with others in a bunch of different formats, whether locally or online, like stroke play, scramble, skins, and more. And guess what? Divot Derby is back, which is basically like a battle royale where you race to finish holes before everyone else. If you’ve ever played Knockout in gym class, you’ll totally vibe with this. Top Golf also makes its return, along with Online Societies, where you team up with others and battle it out for leaderboard glory. Plus, there’s a new Ranked Tours mode that’s synced up with the real PGA Tour calendar, and 2K says there will be events for all skill levels, though only a few were available before the full release. One weird thing though: you need VC (virtual currency) to enter a Ranked Tour event, just like you do to level up your player. The game has been pretty generous with VC so far, but the thought of needing to buy VC to enter online tournaments or grind for it to level up your player is kinda sketchy. As for the deets on the game itself, PGA Tour 2K25 comes with 27 official courses, including three of the four majors, and 11 pro players. The graphics have definitely gotten a glow-up since 2K23, especially with character models that look way more human and less like aliens. You’ve got two graphical modes to pick from (on PS5 Pro) – quality and performance. The game defaults to performance, but honestly, I didn’t see any reason not to go with quality mode, which looks amazing and runs smooth. The presentation’s also leveled up, with a more “live broadcast” feel, and the commentary feels way more natural and less robotic than before.
PGA Tour 2K25: Gradual Improvements and New Features for All Players
PGA Tour 2K25 is a solid game that keeps pushing the franchise forward. While the updates are more about gradual improvements rather than huge jumps, that’s pretty standard for sports sims. The new EvoSwing mechanics and Perfect Swing difficulty give the game a broad appeal, letting it be a chill, casual experience or a hardcore, competitive simulation. I’m not totally sold on the difficulty balance across all modes just yet, but since reviewers don’t always get the full multiplayer experience before release, things might be more balanced when the game officially drops. That said, the usual 2K pattern of paid currencies has made its way into this year’s game. It’s not super in-your-face yet, but I’m hoping they keep it reasonable moving forward. Overall, if you want a golf sim that you can enjoy no matter what mood you’re in, PGA Tour 2K25 has you covered. PGA Tour 2K25 is pretty much a golf game for everyone, offering a fun and accessible experience for players of all skill levels. There are some nice upgrades from 2K23, though I do worry about the accessibility of certain online modes and the rise of premium currencies.
